Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany, Georgia, faced a shortage of medical practitioners and wanted to inspire local students to pursue healthcare careers. Many students saw these careers as out of reach or weren't aware of the opportunities in the field. To address this, Phoebe partnered with SCADpro to create Cloud Clinic, a virtual reality experience designed to show students that a future in healthcare is both achievable and rewarding.

Goals 

  • Inspire interest in healthcare careers: Create an immersive and engaging virtual reality (VR) experience that introduces middle and high school students to various healthcare careers, encouraging them to pursue education and careers in this field.

  • Innovative educational tool: Develop an interactive learning platform that simulates a healthcare environment, allowing students to explore medical roles and procedures in a compelling and accessible way.

  • Strengthen partnership between healthcare and education: Leverage the SCADpro student talent to design, develop, and present a cutting-edge digital experience that bridges healthcare education and creativity.

Ideation and Planning:​

 

​​Set design goals focused on creating engaging, interactive content that resonates with young audiences.

  • Defined user personas based on students’ demographics and interests in healthcare careers.

  • Collaborative workshops between Phoebe Health System and SCADpro students to brainstorm and outline key features of the Cloud Clinic VR experience.

Research and Development:

SCADpro students researched healthcare career pathways, incorporating insights into the VR content to ensure accuracy and appeal.

 

  • Developed a user-friendly and intuitive VR interface, making the experience both immersive and accessible for young students.

  • Iterative development process involving testing VR prototypes and refining user experiences based on feedback from Phoebe and educational experts.

Design and Implementation: ​

 

Designed a visually dynamic and interactive VR environment that replicates real-world healthcare settings under the concept of "Cloud clinic". 

​

  • Integrated mini-games and role-playing scenarios where students can explore different medical roles, such as doctors, nurses, and lab technicians.

  • Finalized the Cloud Clinic experience with a focus on both educational value and entertainment.

Presentation and Feedback

  • SCADpro delivered a final presentation to Phoebe, showcasing the VR experience and demonstrating its potential impact on healthcare education.
